Historic Naval city where Francis Drake completed his game of bowls on Plymouth Hoe before facing the Spanish Armada in 1588 and also where the Pilgrim fathers set sail to a new life in the New World in 1620.
The Barbican area with its waterside bars, restaurants, art galleries and craft shops is well worth a visit. A gallery must in the Barbican is the late Robert Lenkiewicz's Gallery and if you enquire in the gallery it may be possible to arrange to visit his old studio.
Easily accessible from the Barbican is the National Marine Aquarium. Here you will find a fascinating exhibition of marine life, especially good are the Shark, Seahorse and Deep Reef exhibits. A recent addition is the world's only robotic shark, Robo Shark, swimming with four other live sharks.
